LOS ANGELES, CA, October 28, 2025—The Spatial Web Foundation (“SWF” or the “Company”), an organization dedicated to the development and implementation of socio-technical standards intended to provide a safe, secure and interoperable foundation for the Spatial Web, is pleased to inform that it is named in the 2025 Gartner Emerging Tech Impact Radar: Spatial AI as a relevant organization alongside the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for Hyperspace Modeling Language.
This report states that “Spatial AI is turbocharging AI’s value by fusing 3D context with physics—powered by breakthrough solutions across physical AI, reality capture and spatial development frameworks.”
- “A cohesive spatial AI ecosystem requires adopting spatial development frameworks, which are essential tools for creating an interconnected digital content system.”
- “By 2035, every autonomous system, from industrial to drones to wearables, will incorporate a standardized spatial AI layer, up from less than 1% in 2025.”
Among the 11 topics examined in the report related to Spatial AI are Hyperspace Modeling Language, Spatial Web Protocols, and Spatial Web Systems. Gartner describes the Spatial Web as “a fundamental shift that will monetize physical reality by creating a World Wide Web for the real world, transforming interactions with assets, people and places,” but notes that, “without the proper tools (spatial development frameworks), it will be impossible to reap the business benefits of a cohesive spatial AI ecosystem.”
As Gartner explains, “The IEEE approved the first standards for Spatial Web protocol, architecture, and governance in May 2025. Future Spatial Web systems will be based on these and subsequent standards…These build upon and extend the foundations of the current World Wide Web.”
More than 300 industry experts participated in the IEEE Spatial Web Working Group, 2874 Spatial Web, Architecture and Governance, which was initiated by SWF. SWF provides foundational standards for the Spatial Web, including specifications for Hyperspace Modeling Language (HSML), Hyperspace Transaction Protocol (HSTP), Spatial Domain Registry, Spatial Web Domain, Spatial Web Identifiers (SWID), and a Universal Domain Graph (UDG).
The approved IEEE standard 2874-2025 Spatial Web, Architecture and Governance is referenced throughout Gartner’s analysis.
- “Hyperspace Modeling Language (HSML) is the syntax used to structure content (“web spaces”) for the Spatial Web. Web spaces are a user-friendly way for users to access and share digital content directly in physical spaces. Web spaces are analogous to webpages and “paint” the physical world with digital data.”
- “Spatial Web systems are an essential building block to creating “web spaces” by applying web techniques to the physical world. Spatial Web systems include spatial domain registry, Spatial Web domain, Spatial Web Identifier (SWID), spatial indexing and Universal Domain Graph (UDG). Painting the world with data helps businesses enhance customer and employee engagement by streamlining operations and unlocking new revenue opportunities through immersive, contextually relevant experiences.”
- “Spatial Web protocols are the standards for routing spatial web content to endpoint computing devices and browsers. Hyperspace Transaction Protocol (HSTP) has recently been ratified as a Spatial Web protocol to govern how data is routed across the internet for Spatial Web experiences — making it the first for the Spatial Web. Spatial Web protocols are the foundation of the Spatial Web, enabling data transfer between clients and servers for Spatial Web experiences.”
- “Accelerate leadership in spatial AI via spatial computing and the Spatial Web by actively engaging with standardization efforts for spatial computing/web, focusing on high-value, ‘phygital’ use cases leveraging interconnected systems.”
- “Stay ahead of competitors and shape market evolution by actively engaging and tracking foundation-level standardization efforts by consortia involved with the Spatial Web.”
George Percivall, Vice-Chair of the IEEE 2874 Working Group, said, “This Spatial AI report aligns with our design for the Spatial Web, where digital and physical systems converge. The Spatial Web is the infrastructure needed to enable the next frontier in AI. We fully endorse Gartner’s analysis of the necessity of a shared understanding of space as a prerequisite for reliable real world intelligence.”
